What It Builds
Emotional awareness and self-regulation, helping kids gauge how big a feeling is and notice escalation early.
How to Do It
- 1
Draw a thermometer with zones from calm at the bottom to very upset at the top.

Label the levels (calm, a little bothered, frustrated, very upset).

Together, describe what each level feels like in the body.
- 4
Choose a calming strategy for each zone.
- 5
Use it in the moment by asking, "Where are you on your thermometer right now?"

- Post it where everyone can see it.
- Make one for the whole family.
- Pair the higher zones with coping tools like deep breaths, a break, or asking for help.
